This exhibition followed the story of how drawings from the Topham Collection in Eton College Library came to be an inspiration for British architect Robert Adam (1728-1792) and his contemporaries for the design and decoration of town and country houses. It united some of Topham’s drawings after Roman and Greek art with copies and designs from the Adam Archive loaned from the Sir John Soane Museum to illustrate the direct impact Topham’s collection of over 2,500 drawings had on Adam’s decorative language.
Curated by Dr Adriano Aymonino (University of Buckingham) with and Mirco Modolo (University of Rome) and Dr Lucy Gwynn, Deputy Librarian, Eton College.
