It seems very unlikely that Wellington ever said ‘the Battle of Waterloo was won on the Playing Fields of Eton’.  Amongst other questions, the exhibition considered why the remark gained such currency, and explored Wellington’s relationship with the school, both as a student and in his later life. This exhibition brought together objects from the Eton Collections with many loans, principally from Stratfield Saye House, Hampshire.
