Sir Douglas Laird Busk, 1906-1990, attended Eton, joined the Diplomatic service in 1929, served in the Foreign Office in Tehran, Budapest, South Africa, Tokyo, Ankara, and Baghdad before becoming British Ambassador to Ethiopia 1952-1956; to Finland 1958-1960; and Venezuela 1961-1964. Busk was also a keen mountaineer, and author of five books. He was appointed KCMG in 1959. Lady Busk, born Bridget Hemsley Thompson, married Douglas Busk in 1937, and was an artist who exhibited in her own right, and whose illustrations appear in Douglas' The Delectable Mountains. She was the daughter of Annette Bryant and Brig-Gen W.G. Hemsley Thompson, and mother of Peronelle and Claire Busk.
